Election in Singapore

If you wonder what this have to do with us Malaysians and why I choose to write bout this topic, I can assure you it's not because I am a ke poh chi. There's something different bout this whole election that caught my attention and it prompt me to write this.

It all started with a simple video post that I saw in my FB two days ago about a 24 years old girl name Nicole Seah. It's a collection of photo of her campaigning in S'pore (if you are thinking that it must be her look that caught my attention then you are very wrong) with the Chinese song "I Believe" as accompanying music. What really prompt me to press play that evening is a description by the uploader that reads "Nicole believes in a better tomorrow. Let's support her vision. It will take a miracle to unseat Goh Chok Tong. I believe in miracles...". This short description sets me back as I wonder what gives this girl the courages to stand up against The SM Goh (SM stands for Senior Minister, don't get the wrong idea peeps ;p). In case you all scratching your head who is this guy which I bet most of you are, SM Goh is the giant in terms of politics in S'pore as he is the ex Prime Minister.

One video leads me to another, and leads to more articles and news. I discovered a few more names along the way such as Pritam Singh, Tony Tan, Michelle Lee, and Lee Li Kian. All these peoples are the candidates for the oppositions, quite young and regardless of their party, every single one of them have the same fiery passions in their eyes to serve and fight the injustice for the Singaporeans. They've  won me over with their fiery passions, their sincerity in their words and actions, the humility they shown, their anger over all the injustices served to ordinary Singaporeans, their courage to stand up and voiced out the dissatisfaction of the grassroots, and most importantly their love for the peoples. They show me all the quality that a politician suppose to possess. In their rally's speeches, they only make fun of the opponent if the chances arise and that also seldom happen. What they really talk there is the issues that is of interest to the peoples,  suggestions that might actually works and their passion to right the wrongs in the government.  How I wish that we Malaysians can be blessed to have all these individuals as our politicians.

To provide more substances to my opinion, let me tell you about some of the videos I watched. During a rally's speech, Tony Tan almost cry (or did he?Too bad the video's quality is not that good) when he is recounting the sad stories of the citizens that he met during his walkabout. It is so clearly written on his face the sadness he felt when he heard of all these sad cases and his sadness at his own helplessness to assist those citizens, that it's painful to watch even if I'm not a Singaporean. Such love for his own countrymen.

Another candidates that generated a huge buzz, with her FB page's "Like" surpasses Lee Kuan Yew's FB page in merely a week time, Nicole Seah. She gains so many supporters in such a short time not because of her look, but it is her sincerity in every of her speech and interviews that touched the ordinary Singaporeans. A mere 24 years old girl, as Mr. Lee Hsien Long called her, have the courage to stands up to voice her opinions against the ruling party and to right the wrongs that she sees. As she said it perfectly, "It's not about how young I am, it's not about whether I'm female. I'm just an average Singaporean who wants to make things right for her country". Her sincerity, her courage of steel, her down to earth self and  her iron hard determination left me standing still, converted.

Let me remind you fellow friends, a politician's role is to serve the peoples of his/her constituencies, to listen and to provide solutions to their problem, to voice their opinion and dissatisfaction to the government,  to represent the peoples and to fight for their rights in the Parliament, and last but not least, to make sure that the country's wealth is distributed equally to every citizen.

Sadly, this is not the case with our country. Our politicians are only good in publicising themselves over the media, promising empty promises, giving threats and later on scrambled to cover theirs or others backside, finger pointing and playing blaming games, name-calling and personal attacks, and the best of all bickering like a small kids in the Parliaments when they are suppose to discuss and debate issues of national interest. The only interest they have is their own pockets and wallets. Sad but true, this is our politics...

These sad pictures of our politicians is the main reason why I still haven't exercise my right as a voter. I don't see anyone that is worthy for me to cast the vote in my hands. Until such person/s show up in Malaysia, I will not cast this vote of mine. This is my pledge.

To our neighbor Singaporeans, you all are blessed with such young and rare talents so appreciate them. They are definitely a group which in my opinion, is an invaluable assets to your country. To politicians in Malaysia, I hope the examples set by Nicole, Tony, Michelle and the groups can serve as a wake up call to you and brings you back to right path as a politician. Remember those that you pledge to serve.

  1. malaysians has to chose the best out of the worst, not the best of the best, that's why the party that wins will think ppl has chosen them because they are the best out of the lot, but in fact is the total opposite, as george carlin would say, the whole election thing is just an illusion that citizens have choice, in fact there is none :)

LOL how right you are but still i'm hoping that one day we can really have politicians that care. really envy those in S'pore lo..their young generations are ready to stand up and voice out their opinions. Nicole Seah's FB set up last week has more Like than Lee Kuan Yew's FB that's been thr for years. Changes is coming to S'pore
